this is the link to my final video
i had some issues with my original documentary and so had to re do another documentary last minute
i think the documentary still turned out well and covers some valid points of view on the subject
http://youtu.be/Pt_feB940tk

this is a social perception documentary similar to mine that was filmed in america .. i drew inspiration from this when filming my own and took my camera to the public. i also got interviews from local artists in tooth n nail tattoo studio in derry

This was my infographic that i came up with using the statistics that i gathered from my questionnaire , i went for shades of black white and grey and in one of the versions of the graphic i added a little bit of red to make the design stand out. i used tribal tattoo designs for the background in keeping with the theme and designed little tattooed men and women to depict the number of people who were tattoo and the number that were not .. im happy with how it turned out and think it allows the viewer to understand the statistics and perception of tattoos in derry

by far the most eye catching inforgraphic i found that is association with my project .. very eye catching and gets across all the points needed

some examples of existing tattoo infographics aswel as more graphics depicting other statistics

some simple charts i made with the results from the questionnaire which i can use to develop my infographic

my questionnaire i drew up to take to the public of derry ..

some existing tattoo polls depicting percentages of people in the uk and usa with them

it is unprecedented that tattoos have become a huge part of todays society and has grown enormously in popularity in recents years .. some of the research into the types of people show that people from all walks of life and professions have tattoos. old, young, male, female, doctors, dentists, police men etc
the perception of tattoos is changing and the stigma attached is growing smaller and smaller.
in years gone by tattoos were seen as rebellious and those who had them would not have considerable jobs in the community however as shown in the pictures this has changed , doctors who save live have tatoos, mothers have tattoos, grandmothers have tattoos, old young and everything in between.
tattoos are seen as fashionable and alot of people get them for this reason or other reasons such as personal.
my aim was to focus on derry to develop a statistic of why people have them
So for my final major project i started off with a completely different project which was to try and determine if it was possible to make tattoos fade or age the same on different peoples skin by adding some sort of pigment or variant into the equation.. however after extensive research and meetings with professionals in the tattoos industry and even the cosmetic makeup industry all roads led to one outcome that this could not be achieved as there are too many variable in the equation. things such as exposure to the sun, how much a person baths or showers, what kind of materials come into contact with the tattoos and even the sleeping patterns of the individual can affect the healing and hence fading of the tattoo. determining this was a dead end i had not much time left to come up with a different project for my final major.

At our first meeting another idea was discussed about the social perception of tattoos.. i considered to undertake this as my new final project and focus it on derry. My aim for the project was to develop a questionnaire that i would take to the public with a selection of specific questions to gather information about how many people have tattoos, what kind of people have tattoos and the reason behind them .. also the overall social perception of tattoos in derry. from this i would develop an infographic for the statisics i found and also make a documentary to co incide with this .. the documentary consists of interviews with a local tattoo artist from derry and also random opinions of the public
